Coach Sean Garnett

FOUNDER AND OWNER

Coach Sean Garnett, founder, owner, and key figure at The Sports Academy, brings a wealth of experience to the table with over 26 years of soccer coaching and education. He has worked with children from U-5 through college soccer players.

Sean graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in Math in 1996.

While at Appalachian State University, Sean played D-1 soccer from 1991-1995. Coach Sean received his Masters from Ball State University in Physical Education with a concentration in Coaching 2009. He is married to Amy, and they have two sons and a daughter, Kyle (22), Max (18), and Gabby (14).

Before opening The Sports Academy with DJ, coach Garnett was the Head Varsity Boys Coach at Flowery Branch (2019-2022) and the PE teacher at Friendship Elementary. While at FB, he also had a brief stint as the Girl's Varsity Head Coach in 2021. The last two years at FB, coach Garnett's teams recorded a 28-8-3 record, making it as far as the quarterfinals in the GHSA tournament. While at Flowery Branch, he was named the coach of the year for the school and received the Torch Award from Hall County Schools in 2021. He was previously at Hebron Christian Academy, where his boys' teams went 31-22-4 over his three years there. While there, he guided them to one region championship and an appearance in the final 4 in 2017.

His 2016 and 2018 teams reached the second round of the GHSA playoffs. While at HCA, coach Garnett also coached the Girl's Varsity team in 2018, where his team won the region and reached the second round of the playoffs. Before HCA, he spent nine years at Mill Creek High School, where his teams went 67-26-1, including a State Runner-up finish and a final national ranking of 18th in 2014. Before Mill Creek, Garnett was at Gainesville High School from 2002-2006, where his teams went 60-24-5, with appearances in the State Final 4 and Quarterfinals.

Before moving to Georgia in 2002, Coach Garnett was the Head Boys Coach of his alma mater, Davie High School, for three seasons. His overall high school coaching record is 268-179-19.

He has received Region Coach of the Year five times, one Gwinnett Goal Club Coach of the Year for large schools, and one Ste Coach of the Year Award. He holds his National Coaching Diploma for the United Soccer Coaches - formerly the NSCAA. He currently coaches the 2008 and 2009 AFU ECNL Girls. Before his current position, Coach Sean has coached in the ECNL, Academy, Select, and Rec programs at GSA, LSA, and DSC over the past 21 years in Georgia.
